Heavy coastal storms ravage all the beach along the east coast. Over the past 50 years more than 100 locations have effectively used beach nourishment to periodically recycle the sand that has been swept away, using off-shore ships and pumps to return the sand. The South Amelia Island Shoreline Stabilization Association has the lead for us and is in a cycle of replenishment about every ten years. Below is a sample profile from the last project.
